Morocco from 1870 to 1960 in 10,000 photographs, and the best rooftop in the northern medina
About the place
Patrick Manac'h and Hamid Mergani opened this riad in 2009 with their own collection: prints, glass plates and postcards bought over years in flea markets in France and Marrakech. Over three floors you follow the country from 1870 to the sixties: caravans, souks, Atlas women photographed by travellers who didn't always understand what they were seeing. On the top floor the first colour documentary shot in the High Atlas, in 1957, plays on a loop; twenty minutes you watch to the end. And then the terrace, the Koutoubia on one side, the snowy peaks on the other.

Visiting tip
Go up to the terrace first to order a tea, then go down and visit, and come back up for sunset. The ticket lets you in and out all day.
