Vizier Menebhi's palace, its giant chandelier and a hammam you can still walk into
About the place
Mehdi Menebhi was war minister to Sultan Abdelaziz. He built this palace in 1894, before falling from favour and ending up in Tangier. The building became a barracks, then a girls' school, until the Omar Benjelloun Foundation bought it in 1997. What stays with you: the covered courtyard under a glass roof with a brass chandelier the size of a car, and the intact hammam at the back, three rooms lit by stars cut into the dome. The collections (calligraphy, Fez ceramics, jewellery) are uneven, honestly. People come for the building.

Visiting tip
No combined ticket with the madrasa opposite, but the two fit together in an hour and a half. The café in the courtyard is decent, and in the shade.
