Dar Si Said – National Museum of Weaving and Carpets
The city's oldest museum, redone from scratch for carpets
About the place
Si Said, Ba Ahmed's brother, had this house built a few steps from the Bahia, on a more modest scale. A museum since 1932 and dusty for a long time, it was completely rethought in 2018 around the carpet: Beni Ouarain from the Middle Atlas, Zemmour, Rabat, carpets from the Haouz and Taznakht with their reds and diamonds. The labels finally explain how to read a carpet, the symbols of fertility and protection, the weavers' signatures. Upstairs, the wedding hall with its painted dome is the finest room; brides were once carried up here on a chair. And in the courtyard, the 10th-century wooden swing from a regional moussem.

Visiting tip
Thirty dirhams: the cheapest museum in town and one of the quietest. Do it right after the Bahia, before the fatigue sets in.
